A break in the forest
Walking through the woods back to my house.

I had quite a haul from Ulta this week - lots of good things that I will break down slowly.  Some of it will be gifts but most of it is for me - I have to be honest!!
I very kindly received this lovely snake skin bag filled with all of these products -
 some are full size!

This is what I use to wash my face every day - it is gentle even when using my Clarisonic.
Ulta had a special - buy one - get one 50% off so that is a good deal for me.  I cannot always find this in stores and I don't want to run out since I live in the middle of no where!

This is the body wash I use all year - though formulated for winter, it is moisturizing without being oily and making the shower slippery!  As a rule, I cannot find it locally so I stock up when I find it on Amazon:

I like many of the Hourglass products and have all of the Lighting Powders - they give such a soft glow without being sparkly.  So I thought I would try this:
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush  - Dim Infusion (Light peach - one of the lightest colors) - info from the website:
"Discover a new way to blush: This groundbreaking hybrid combines the customized lighting effects of Ambient Lighting Powder with a spectrum of breathtakingly modern hues"
I am not a big blush person as I have some redness to my skin - but the color was so pretty.
Color on a tissue and under the forearm - it is a very finely milled powder so you can build on it if needed - I won't need to - just a quick swipe will be enough color for me.  This will definitely last!
But it does not have the soft focus effect that the Lighting Powders are known for - so one blush will be enough for me.

Artisan organic greens for lunch:  I try to be good!
But sometimes you need a doughnut!

I recently read about the high cost of a migraineur's meds.  When she started using it in the 1980's it cost $180 for 10 doses.  Her most recent prescription cost almost $15,000.00 for 10 doses. NO, that is not a misprint!  It made me so mad I thought my head would explode!  I believe in
a competitive market but this is just outrageous.
This year I had one medication jump from $6 to $80 in one month and it's an old generic med!  Something is very wrong in the pharma industry.  I shudder to think what it will cost at the first of the year.
Be well my loves.

I am liking the no make up trend.  And I do my fair share by doing without make-up several times a week.
Here are stars that are embracing the look:

And me, rocking the look - just off the treadmill:
Ok, maybe a little make up is needed  -  I don't want to scare small children!

So, if we are going to go au naturel we need to take extra care with our skin.  The No7 skin care line is very popular in Europe and is #1 in Britain and has a lot of science behind the brand.  It was on sale (at Ulta) so I decided to try some new products.  According to the Boots website, Lift & Luminate are made for the 45-60 age group.  I have used some items in the past and enjoyed them - no reaction from my skin   But I recently had a terrible flair up (rocasea) and my skin was red and feverish - no idea what set it off.  I needed something calming for the skin.
The Calm Skin Balm was soothing lotion-like that felt good on the skin - I have not used it every day but might try that as the weather changes to drier and colder.  The ingredients include: Squalane, Ceramides & Licorice extract which help calm the skin.
I only use waterproof mascara and this one is new to me.  It is very wet mascara so you don't need a lot.  But I will probably not buy this again - I will return to Lancome.

Overnight Hand Treatment is very nice - absorbs quickly and no oily residue on top of the hands - I use this at least once daily on the back of my hands.  If too much comes out, just swipe the extra on the chest or neck.

Protect & Perfect Intense Eye Cream
Protect & Perfect Intense Eye Cream is a very nice product that I have used occasionally over the past year.  I really need to be more consistent because this is not harsh and can use it day or night.  While this is on sale at Ulta I need to pick up another one and to go along with this,  I think I will also add Beautiful Skin Dark Circle Corrector - it can' hurt!
For more info about this brand visit my friends at Peppermint Cove:

lots of great info here that they kindly shared about this brand.

Have you tried this brand and did you like it?  The stores here in the US do not carry all of the products available but you can find more here:

Let me know if you have tried anything from this brand and what products you recommend.

I read on another blog that the writer liked a new fragrance that smelled like leather - really?????
It was made for women but I don't understand the appeal.  I realize my fondness for florals is not for everyone but at least it will be soft and pleasant.  When I read the description, I can only think about cowboys - I love them (think about Tom Selleck and Sam Elliott ) I just don't want to smell like one!

I love this product!  I did not even wait for a sale!!!

Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder, shade - Highlight-01

It is a natural color with soft matte radiance - just gives a glow without being sparkly.
I start at the cheekbone and brush down to under the eyes.  Then continue to dab over the upper lip and over the brows.  This is sheer yet build-able silky texture with no dust - super finely milled - this will last as there is no waste.
Contains Vitamin E (antioxidant that protects skin) and Jojoba oil

And since I am on a Laura Mercier kick - I forgot I had this (too)!!!!!!!!
Laura Mercier Eye Art Artist's Palette
This set contains:    0.03 oz x 12 in Sparkling Dew, Guava, African Violet, Plum Smoke, Kir Royal, Violet Ink, Vanilla Nuts, Primrose, Fresco, Bamboo, Truffle, Espresso Bean
The top row is organized into cool colors, while the bottom row is in warm colors.  Both rows are arranged in light to deep shades from left to right.  Great matte colors!
This originally sold out but seems to be back at Sephora but a little higher price.  But still a good value rather than buying the individual eye shadows.
Packaging: magnetic closure with full mirror

I tried these shampoos because they were on sale - of course!

The tsubaki blossom from OGX smells wonderful - but I still needed some conditioner.
shampoo
The O2 shampoo had a nice clean scent but was too drying for my hair - so I am back to Pantene.

It's that time of year - yum!!!!!
Death by Chocolate coffee (decaf) and choc caramel creamer - of course it would not hurt to add a tablespoon of pumpkin spice flavor!

I think the door wreath is good enough - I might add a few more sprigs but I am happy with the colors so let's call it finished!

Here is a project that we all can get behind:
Help foster care children get off to a good start in the new school year.

 http://www.mattressfirm.com/community-foster-kids.html

In the bag I delivered, I included things like nail polish remover and some nail polishes that I will not use, lotion, shampoo, blush and mascara - things that might be too expensive for the foster families to provide but will be fun extras for a high school girl. I hope it brings a smile to a young lady.

I forgot I had this!
Not expensive so if I knock it off the dressing table I won't have a melt down!  But I like the colors even though there is a little fall-out.  You can never have enough eye shadows!

                                                      Try this great product!
SKINFOOD's Premium Lettuce & Cucumber Watery Emulsion
Skin Food has a very light green scent (goes away quickly) and the skin feels so refreshed.  My sensitive skin liked it and it felt very gentle.
This is from the manufacturer:
"Lettuce extracts have a naturally high water content, quickly cooling and refreshing sun-stressed skin. Lettuce also has high levels of minerals, as well as and vitamins A and E, which help hydrate, firm, and illuminate skin for a balanced complexion. Cucumber extracts help tone and moisturize skin. They provide soothing repair for sun-damaged skin. Cucumber is packed with vitamin C, which helps restore and stimulate collagen in skin for a firmer, healthier complexion. We use a technique of steam distillation on our cucumbers. Condensation of the steam is collected to create a fragrant cucumber water, without sacrificing the natural plant oils and essence. SKINFOOD's Premium Lettuce & Cucumber Watery Emulsion is a light, water-based emulsion that cools and hydrates without leaving residue. It's made up of 5% lettuce extract, 5% cucumber extract, and 20% cucumber
water (hydrosol)."
I use it as a pre-moisturizer - I also apply a moisturizer with SPF if I am going to apply make up.  But if I am just hanging around the house this is all I apply in the morning.

Happy Day! It is after Labor Day so I can officially decorate for fall.  This year I added a new decoration over the doorway into the sun room:

I am refreshing the door wreath and creating a larger bow - a work in progress!
